Is Your Tomato Soup BPA Free?
We've all heard about the BPAs in baby bottles and water bottles, b
ut soup cans? Unfortunately, yes. BPA, or Bisphenol A, is found in the lining of metal food cans. Apparently canned tomatoes carry one of the highest risks due to the acidity which causes additional leaching of BPA into the product. Your best bet is to look for tomato products that are sold in glass containers. This applies to all canned vegetables, so looking for fresh or frozen would help you aviod contamination.
What exactly are the risks associate with BPA? Well, it mimics certain hormones, so excessive exposure can cause a myriad of problems including: brain damage, hyperactivity, early puberty, increase in prostate size and low sperm count (only good if you want to reduce your dependence on contraceptives - that's a joke, by the way ;)).

It is really an issue and there needs to be more initiatives to draw attention of the common public towards this health scare. It took us almost a century to find BPA's side effects and we've been using it for so long for many of our daily needs. Lastly but not the least a very nice blog ! :)
